NaNoWriMo Day 25

Well, we did it… almost. The last full week of October. November 1 is a week from today: the time you go and start your novel. Next weeks posts are about doneness: when is it done, is it really over when the month is over, and what if you didn’t get done.

So, if you remember nothing from this month, here are the 5 things you that will help you call November a win followed by 5 things that weren’t in this month’s posts, but will be just as useful to you, and maybe even more.

From October (in order of importance):

  1. Seeing the world is the most important thing. If you can do that, you can write.

2. Let yourself be lost if you need to.

3. Your November goal is to write, not to research.

4. Take care of yourself so you can take care of your writing.

5. If you have to read a book, read No Plot? No Problem!

From other posts (in order of importance)

  1. Don’t see the world as it is (Notice how this subject is on both lists but different articles?)

2. Carl Sandburg creates every story

3. The moment to write about

4. Embrace influence to find your voice

5. Revision—if you thought writing a novel was hard, you ain’t seen nothing yet

And a bonus tip: HAVE FUN. There aren’t agents and editors and fans staring through your window watching every word you write. In November, you can be the you that only you are. Enjoy it.
