There was a bee—there were millions of them, in fact—who enjoyed stinging people just to be seen. They called it “engagement” and they seemed to think it was a good thing. Eyeballs were everything in their world; meaning meant nothing.

Then there was a beetle who carried itself in a way that was above all that. While this beetle was safe and secure from pointless stings, it didn’t go where the bees massed. Although it couldn’t fly so it was slow and almost unseen, it went more interesting places. That beetle is in a museum now. The bees… who knows and who cares?

This means exactly what it means.
