On a beautiful summer day in a nearly-cloudless clime, I hiked deep into the woods, Thoreaulike, in search of a quiet place to munch an apple and eat a book. This day, and all those like them from those times, are locked inside me in a closet full of sundries, stuffed with mental tchotchkes, and a sign on the door that says “Happiness.”
All these years later, I occasionally peer through its keyhole, and they still speak to me.
