If you don’t know what story cubes are, see the introduction to the story cubes series.

I roll the dice and pick a book from my shelves. The first is a tale of legends of magical buffalo and cursed blankets. The next is a story of brave paratroopers from WWII. The next one takes me inside the pyramids. I find Montezuma, who has been living there for centuries. I feel the force of his entombment and end up with the phantom runs.

Fortunately I had all these experiences without even leaving the side of my bookshelf at home, which is fortunately well-stocked with toilet paper.

Today is June 14th, which is Flag Day in the United States. Although the flag was adopted on this day in 1777, the U. S. Army was also founded on June 14th, but in 1775. Happy birthday, Army! (If you’ve read my About page, you know I served in it way too long ago. I was a paratrooper then, too, although I came nowhere near seeing the action the ones did in WWII.)

I’m heading to Detroit in less than two months to see Rush, so when the dice cube came up, I had to title this week’s story after one of my favorite Rush songs, “Roll the Bones.”

The comments section is the perfect place for what you came up with. I’m sure you did better than I did this week!
