Day’s word count: 0

Total word count: 1089

Writing location: N/A

Work: 11:15 a.m. – 11:45 p.m. (see why no writing?)

Exercise: none (would have, but I was in one of those hotels where the fitness room is connected to the pool so it isn’t open 24 hours)

Notes

As expected, no writing happened today because I was at work for almost 13 hours. I already knew this would happen, so although I’m sad that I didn’t get a chance to write, I have days like this at work sometimes. My job as a pilot pays the bills so I can have the luxury of free time to write, but occasionally there are days like this. Not all of them, but some.

It’s not a catastrophe because the upside is that when I’m off work, it’s often for stretches of days at a time and when I’m off, I’m totally off. No need to check emails, take phone calls, think about work projects, etc. because flying an airliner isn’t a work-from-home position. With the exception of quarterly recurrent training, it makes absolutely no demands on my time or brain when I’m not on duty. It liberates me mentally in a way that many other jobs wouldn’t.

Besides, yesterday was a complete win of a day: over a thousand words written, got a good workout in, and finished a book that I was hoping to have done before November started. If I average these two out, I’m still doing well. You just have to look at life that way sometimes, and especially during NaNoWriMo.
