Notes

I wrote the ending today. I had no idea how the book would start, what the middle would be, and even less of a clue how it would end. I had a big reveal in one of the chapters, then at the end of it, I saw that it left open a perfect segue to the end.

One of the things that I’m most happy about is that this is Richard’s book, but he finishes it with her in focus at the fadeout. Eileen doesn’t show up until late in the story because they’ve been together for only about 5% of his life. But Eileen is first among equals in the series, and Richard loves her more than anything, so I found a way for him to end his own book while giving her the last line of dialogue. So even in his own book, he puts her ahead of himself. He doesn’t even need to say anything to show you where he places her.
