The halfway point. I should be at 25,000 words. I am at 15,511, or 31%. Still not worried because things are starting to fall into place. Scenes are appearing faster than I can write them down, which is usually the case around the 1/3 point as the path gets clearer. I’ve been further behind, and considering all the things I did to make this one extra challenging, I’m doing okay.
I went in trying to make this one as descriptive as possible with as little dialogue as possible. The experiment has been interesting, because it’s shown me just how much trying to rely on one narrative technique can be limiting, and given me an even better appreciation for how every tool has its use. Learning something was a goal this time around (I don’t want to get stale just because this is my fifth time around), and I’ve already hit that one, so the month is a success already.
