The days when the unexpected things come are the good ones. What was supposed to be a short musing on a quotation from Amy Hempel (“The need for new love is faithfulness to the old”) turned into a long, lyrical vehicle for exposition and a smooth place for Eileen to make her entrance.
Although the word count was only a thousand, they were a thousand important ones. Nonetheless, I am starting to pay a wee bit more attention to the average words per day required now.
